Medical Spanish and Latino Health Certificate

This Medical Spanish and Latino Health Certificate is designed for degree-seeking students from all majors, recent graduates, and/or health professionals. It aims to enhance students' oral proficiency in Spanish and deepen their understanding of Latino cultures and barriers to health access. The certificate aims to increase awareness among Miami University pre-health students and/or health professionals about the health, language, and cultural needs of many Hispanic/Latino patients in the United States; develop Spanish linguistic skills; as well as provide pre-health students pursuing graduate or professional programs and/or current health professionals a competitive edge that sets them apart from others.

 

Program Requirements

(15 semester hours)

Prerequisites for this certificate: Demonstrated Spanish language proficiency at the 202/203 level through Miami's language placement exam or earned academic credit through SPN 201.

Take 6 additional credit hours from unused language or community engagement courses above or from the courses below. Only ONE elective (3 hrs) can be taken in English.6
