The French major is ideal for those who love to read, write, and learn about other cultures. Through the integrated study of literature, language, cultures, and the arts of the French and Francophone world, the major offers students the opportunity to hone their French skills while taking courses on a wide variety of topics from the study of literature to artistic avant-gardes, contemporary French thought, film, and graphic novels. Students are encouraged to participate in the Department’s faculty-led study abroad programs in Dijon and Paris.
Teacher Licensure
Students who wish to combine teacher licensure with an Arts and Science major must observe the rules, procedures, and restrictions pertaining to admission to a licensure cohort as outlined in the College of Education, Health and Society chapter. Students seeking the Bachelor of Arts in French meet the College of Arts and Science writing in the major requirement by completing the following course/s: FRE 301; six hours from FRE 302, FRE 303, or FRE 310; and the senior seminar FRE 425.
