Art - Bachelor of Fine Arts
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art is a rigorous and professionally oriented degree that enables students to choose one of two concentrations: Art Education or Studio Art. The program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD)
In the Art Education concentration, students are prepared for state licensure to teach visual arts in Ohio public schools (pre-kindergarten through grade 12, ages 3-21). The program meets the licensure standards of the Ohio Department of Education. Coursework aligns with Ohio’s academic content standards in visual arts as well as national frameworks from the National Art Education Association. Students work closely with art education faculty to plan curricula, complete key assessments and benchmarks, and demonstrate readiness for candidacy and final licensure review. Non-licensure track available for student interested in teaching outside of preK-12 contexts.
In the Studio Art concentration, students engage in in-depth study of disciplines such as ceramics, metals & jewelry design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. The curriculum balances time-honored craftsmanship methods with cutting-edge technologies and contemporary media options that are integrated to expand visual language and creative expression. Students build robust professional portfolios, preparing them for entry-level careers in the arts or for advanced study. Capstone exhibitions on campus and exhibitions in regional or national venues give students real-world exposure and professional exhibit experience. Our studio faculty are practicing artists who exhibit internationally, offering personalized mentorship, technical guidance, and individualized critique in a supportive, engaged community.
