Principal Licensure Graduate Certificate
The Principal Licensure Graduate Certificate Program at Miami University is tailored to students who currently hold a Master’s Degree in Education, and wish to obtain Principal Licensure in Ohio. The program seeks to develop and empower democratic educational leaders to mobilize knowledge for the leadership of schools in more just, ethical, and innovative directions. Coursework is delivered 100% online utilizing both synchronous and asynchronous modalities to accommodate full-time professional educators seeking to obtain principal licensure. Our coursework challenges students to ask complex questions about ethical, democratic leadership in the multi-dimensional context of contemporary schooling, and embodies a sense of hope and possibility for the future of schools. Grounded in Ohio’s Standards for Principals, our coursework includes internship experiences so that students may learn, practice, and mobilize knowledge in dynamic educational settings. Our program welcomes students who aspire to serve as teacher-leaders, as well as those who aspire to the principalship, and other district leadership roles like director of curriculum or director of student services.
To obtain Principal Licensure in Ohio, students must also meet requirements set forth in state law and regulation, which currently include:
-
Pass the Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) 015 Educational Leadership licensure exam, prescribed by the State Board of Education.
-
Have two years of successful teaching experience under a standard or professional teaching license (or work experience under a professional pupil services license) for the ages and grade levels for which the principal license is sought.
Licensure requirements are subject to change. Further information concerning the license can be found here:
